Like DX will often have you create a structure with 20 fields of which you set 2, and then pass the address of that to a function. According to code complete that function should instead just take those 2 parameters. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Adrian Brown" <enliten@btinternet.com> To: <gameprogrammer@topica.com> Sent: Monday, March 29, 2004 2:55 PM Subject: RE: [GP] Help! Making game engine I think this refers to passing structures, not address of structures which DX passes. -----Original Message----- From: Kevin Jenkins [mailto:gameprogrammer@rakkar.org] Sent: 29 March 2004 23:23 To: gameprogrammer@topica.com Subject: Re: [GP] Help! Making game engine It's still that way :) I was reading Code Complete, published by Microsoft Press, and it says not to pass structures unless every parameter is used, unless you are at 12+ used parameters if you didn't use that struct. So they violate the programming principles of even a book they published. > I say stay away from directx because my experience with it has been that it > is unecesarily complicated, full of strangely named classes, with strangely > named function parameters and class members and function parameters which > you have to look at the docs to learn that they arent even used (?). a total > pain in the ass to initialize crap and nothing really made much sense. > Atleast thats how it was in DX 7 and 8, not sure anymore but im guessing it > hasnt changed that much. =========================================================== Are you looking for savings on products you use everyday?
