I'm not exactly sure who'll read or receive this message, so i'll attempt 
to be clear and brief.  I know alot about C and C++ programming, at least 
as fas as the syntax is concerned.  What I do not know is how to write a 
program that shows pictures on the screen, plays a short sound clip, or 
reads characters from the keyboard without the user having to press the 
enter key.  I do not want to use someone else's pre written library of 
functions - I would much rather learn and understand the language, so I 
would be able to write one of those libraries myself.  I would prefer to 
start with something simple such as VGA or mode X (I know what they are but 
have never successfully used them).  I do not expect to learn this material 
in a week, I have enough experience with programming to know that it takes 
time, and I am willing to go to the store and buy books if I have to.  If 
anyone receiving or reading this message knows how to do this, or knows 
where I can go to get that kind of information, it would be an incredible 
help.  Thank you.
