Doom succeeded not only coz it was new. This list would be a good place to
ask, what is it that makes a game popular? I mean, more popular than others?

I just finished 50 gruelling rounds of Bustamove with my wife. What is it
about that stupid bunch of moving balloons that is so engaging? (Or
possibly it's just me ;)

U wanna know what makes a good game? Tell this list, what is ur fav game or
2, and list 3 or 4 things about it that makes u keep coming back to it.
Then collate the answers. Like this:

Descent
  - 3D action
  - multiplayer
  - level editor

Age of Empires
  - good balanced gameplay, all weapons vulnerable
  - mix of strategy and tactics
  - intricate, lots of related options

European Air War
  - high degree of realism
  - good AI opponents (too _dam'_ good! :)

See, then u collate a buncha answers and u have a mini-market survey, tells
u what to build into a game.
