hi all,

I am a student and want to make game programming as my career. With the links posted out here one was makegames.com which had a book  Action Arcade Adventure Set by Diana Gruber

What i want to know in today's competetive world where there are games like nfs,fifa,quake should i get into knowing how side scrolling games are developed.
I may be wrong that learing developing side scroller is of no use...

Can someone guide me for it.
My programming knowledge is that i have just started learning c++.What else should i begin with?
