Unsubscribing from a List via Your Email
Client
To unsubscribe from a list hosted
by Topica (i.e. the email address ends with Topica.com), send a blank email
message:
- In the "To:" line, type: [listname]-unsubscribe@topica.com. Look in the
"To:" line of a recent email you received from the list to find the exact
[listname]. For example, if the address in the "To:" line is:
topicatips@topica.com then you would send your unsubscribe request To:
topicatips-unsubscribe@topica.com.
- In the "From:" line, type your exact email address that is subscribed to
the list. Some email providers, most commonly ISPs, universities, military, or
corporations, use a hidden alias that slightly alters your address. If you've
had trouble unsubscribing, a hidden alias is often the cause. See the
Unsubscribing Tip titled "Identify Your
Alias".
- Click "Send" and within a few minutes you'll receive a verification
message indicating that you've been unsubscribed from the list.
If the
list is not hosted by Topica, you may unsubscribe through Topica's web site
using your My Topica account.
Tip: Identify which of Your Alias Email Addresses is
Subscribed to the List
When you unsubscribe from a list
via email, you must use the exact email address that is subscribed to the list.
Some email providers, most commonly ISPs, universities, military, or
corporations, use a hidden alias that slightly alters your address. For
instance, joe@msn.com, becomes joe@email.msn.com when an MSN e-mail is sent or
received. This alteration is not usually visible to you in the address that
shows in the "From/To" fields of e-mails you send or receive.
To find out if your address is altered by your ISP, look at the Full
Header information on a message that you have received from the Topica
newsletter or discussion from which you want to unsubscribe (see how to do that
below under "View Full Header" ). The Full Header information in your email
message should contain rows of information similar to the example below:
Received: from outmta009.topica.com (206.132.75.221)
by mx.topica.com (8.9.3/8.9.3) with SMTP id RAA20225
for <joe@email.msn.com>; Thu, 4 Jan 2001 17:21:22 -0800

The Full Header example shows on Line 3 that joe@email.msn.com is the
exact address subscribed to the list.

Unfortunately, WebTV does not allow its users to access full header
information. WebTV often provides its users with multiple email aliases. You may
be subscribed with one of these. We recommend that you contact WebTV support and
ask them if you have any aliases. If you email them to us, we will check each of
them for subscriptions. Send your request to unsubscribe@topica.com

Subject: Re: GAME IDEA
Help. Fellows, I am a very old
grey headed person who checked out the site for my son. Now I am getting
tons of good email none of which I understand. Does anyone know how I am
to remove myself from your list? I asked the primary address to remove me,
but without success. Thanks for any ideas.
