depending on the os you might be able to fix the files.
win9x : open the system info page and under extras there is a possibility to
check system files
or something like it (i had the german version!)
then all you need it the w9x installation cd.

under win2k: one pos. iirc reboot with the installation cd in your cd-rom
there is a possibility to fix your installation.
