free english dictonary

Hi all,

I'm making some word games (client/server) like scrabble and I'm looking for
an English Dictionary/lexicon (No translation to other languages).
A free dictionary if possible (I'm trying to finance my study here).
I looked on the internet but couldn't find what I am looking for. Nearly all
I found were online translators.
I need to check wether the words used by the player are real English words.
The dictionary needs to contain all words (if possible) of today's English
language.

The game will be ported on Windows NT and UNIX, if this matters to what kind
of file format/database I should look for.

Does anybody know where I can download such dictionary?
