Re: Just Starting

I would suggest starting on little things, and going from there. Make a few small VERY simple games, forget 3D for a little while, unless you have a natural gift in 3D maths.

First, learn general programming structures like loops, arrays, simple algorithms and probably even objects, then start with something small that you'll be able to finish in a few weeks of solid coding. Don't aim your first project at a 2 year time frame, start small and work your way through an entire small project first.

Did I mention that you should start small??? ;^)

Good luck and happy coding.

Dear Gameprogrammers,

I am young still in high school. I have taken a couple of programming
classes with c++. I plan on going to college with a major in computer
science. I then want to become a game programmer.
But, I want to get started early. There is a book out I am going to get
that is named: 3D Game Programming with C++. Do you think this is a good
book?
How would I make and animate the characters in the game? Remember I will be
using the C++ compiler. How long do you think it would take me to make this
game, i was guessing a year or two, but I dont know.

Answers greatly appreciated,
