Just Starting

Dear Gameprogrammers,

I am young still in high school.  I have taken a couple of programming 
classes with c++.  I plan on going to college with a major in computer 
science.  I then want to become a game programmer. 
    But, I want to get started early.  There is a book out I am going to get 
that is named: 3D Game Programming with C++.   Do you think this is a good 
book?
How would I make and animate the characters in the game?  Remember I will be 
using the C++ compiler.  How long do you think it would take me to make this 
game, i was guessing a year or two, but I dont know.
