 I personally wouldn't be able to help you but the following
book will shoot you straight into game programming from
ground zero! It's called "The Black Art of 3-D Game
Programming" by Andre' LaMothe' and it is written in a way
that even a child could understand! It teaches DOS-based 3-D
VGA programming like DOOM, but you will learn the core of
game programming here! You can get a free C, C++, or Pascal
compiler at Borland.com's museum section to be able to
compile the code that accompany's the book (and to write
your own games. After this book, you can get a book on
Windows DirectX/Direct3D and you will be ready for the big
leagues.
