Re: For Bob, of Bob's Rant

Eric,

There is a very straightforward way to getting free software for your
computer on the internet. Clear about 500 - 1000 MB of space on your hard
drive, and get Linux. Compilers, Libraries, Windowing systems, Multimedia
players, they can all be yours for free, and all you have to do is invest a
little effort in educating yourself. The knowledge you gain will be worth
it just for itself. Redhat is a good distro for Linux newbies, and there
are too many sources of good Linux info to name.

Cheers,
Ben.

I read your rant on compilers. I agree. Computers are meant for
programming. I spent $50 of my hard earned money, (money is hard to come by
at age 14) on a programming book. To my surprise and dismay, I see that I
need a compiler to use the C++ language. I wanted to know if you could help
me. Is there any reliable site that I could find a compiler for free? My
mother would be very angry if I had to spend more money on a compiler yet.
If you cannot help, thank you anyway.

Troubled and very frustrated ~Eric
