The Linux kernel is not a bad example (tho you need to stay away
from bits like the SCSI stack), OSE is also not bad.  ACE (adpative
Communication Environment) and SGI's STL (skip HP's) are decent
examples for the C++ side, but are heavy going.  Lighter weight C++
examples might enclude things like chunks of LEDA (varies fairly
widely, but there are some very good bits) and cunks of the NIH
libraries (tho I haven't looked at them for several years now)..
