Well, I don't know how many of you have every worked for a small or medium game development company. But last I look, the programmers took care of most if not all of the network setup and opperations. In fact, often times the whole project is placed on the server to keep all the code and data in place. That way configuration management is much easier. You do know what config management is ? Don't you? "Real" game programming takes tallent in all areas of programming. Not just graphics and sound! Ever hear of Net work games. You don't think a small developer can afford to have a programmer for each area of the project do you? If you do then get real! ON most projects money is very scares and artist do graphics for in game and promo's, sound engineers do music, foley, fx, and programmers do anything that involves coding or hardware or networks! Unless you're lucky enought to work for a larger company, you had better know the PC inside out! If you're going to work in the gaming industry!!! R.
