RE: kid

If your looking for inspiration then look to
Seumas McNally.. he was the programmer behind
TreadMarks which took three awards at the
Independant Games Festival, best programming,
best game design, and the grand prize.

http://www.gamedev.net/community/memorial/seumas/

This was done by him, his brother, and mother and father.
That's it. Talk about inspiration.. this is his memorial
page, sadly short after receiving this recognition, he
passed on due to Hodgkins Lymphoma. Truly a sad day...
the world has lost a great mind, and person.

Chris...

--> Most games these days are made by AT LEAST 5-20 people..
--> Even Super Mario

--> Working solo to make a breakthrough game takes years. Take

--> Unreal..... Didn't he start on that thing right after the

--> hmm......... 5 years.
--> *shudders at the thought of working on the same program that long*
--> Not that it's impossible to make a game solo. Plenty of
--> decent games are made
--> solo, or with about 3 people. (programmer, artist,
--> musician/sound engineer).
--> They take around 6 months to a year and a half normally,
--> sometimes spanning
--> to 2 or 3 years.
--> I've seen on average game being completed in 1 to 2 years by teams.
--> -keep in mind these games are relatively very complex.
-->
--> Quake was done by only a few programmers, but it's hard to
--> be a John Carmack.
