DirectX wasn't introduced for VB until DirectX7 I believe. -----Original Message----- From: gameprogrammer-owner@gameprogrammer.com [mailto:gameprogrammer-owner@gameprogrammer.com]On Behalf Of Tim Elder Sent: January 30, 2000 1:21 AM To: gameprogrammer@gameprogrammer.com Subject: Re: DirectX7 and Learning I've just got the book "Inside DirectX" by Microsoft Press and it's awesome. It comes with the DirectX 5.2 SDK and plenty of examples etc. I would recommend it for a beginner cause that's what I am. Unfortunately, all of the examples are in C++, I don't believe that there are any VB samples other than in the v7 SDK. Hope this helps, Tim <<< "Steve Tranby" <stevemt@hotpop.com> 1/29 2:30p >>> Hi, 1) I was wondering if directx7.0 sdk is the best to get right now or if i should get DX6 to program with for the time being until they perfect 7.0. 2) Do you think that VB is a good platform using directx7.0? I am very fluent in VB6 , but not so well in C++. I am trying to learn windows programming in C++ right now and was wondering if it would be better to learn directx for VB or C++ 3) (last) Would you say I should learn the core language and functions of Directx or should i get a wrapper to get started. That way i could get something accomplished quicker and then learn the innards for tweaking and optimizations. Thanks by the way i program in ( VB6, QBASIC, C, win98 C (little), C++ (standard[no win]),perl, java, javascript etc.) ================================================================= The GameProgrammer.Com mailing list is for the open discussion of any topic related to the art, science, and business of programming games.
