Funny thing about 3D games... they make a lot of people sick. That's right a lot of people get physically ill when they try to play 3D games. The DOD has done a lot of research on the subject because the same thing happens in flight simulators. Pilots who can handle a real dog fight puke in their helmets in simulators. This means that the consentration on 3D games is actualy alienating a lot of potential customers. On the other hand 3D games have been big sellers since Wolfenstein 3D. I think it has become a test of programming merit to program a 3D engine. As a result a lot of games that don't need to be 3D are written as 3D games. A lot of programmers are spending time writing their own 3D systems when the game would be just as much fun done in 2D.
