Dont' make the same mistake which I made. I am regreting it now. Either
learn C or C++. Stick to one you will be fine. Now learn the language.
Everything about it. When I mean everything I mean everything. Virtual
function, virtual pointers, etc. Also understand arrays really good, and
the whole way evrything sticks together. You really don't have to bother
with assembler to much. This is mostly because hardware has gotten so fast
that there is really no point unless we really need it. Also I suggest you
do a lot of graphics reading while you are learning your C or C++. I suggest
copmuter graphics principles and practice. IT is not an easy read but it
will be well worth it.
good luck!
akbar A.

ps-> before you start making a "game" make small demos and stuff like that.
the whole game programming concept is rather hefty. Just absorbing this
concept and making your first game can take some time. And never get
discouraged everyone starts somewhere . even ID and Epic started with a side
scrooler ;)
