[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index] GRIPES ABOUT GRIPES - was Re: GRIPES! again ...
OK, at the cost of being hypocritical and griping myself, please can we cut out the GRIPES?!? Karel, while I *can* see where you're coming from, please be patient and show some forbearance to learners. More to the point, please don't complain about it! I get the impression this is a fairly young mailing list? If so - give it a chance to sort itself out. Something with a title "How do I ..."? Here's a revelation: *you can ignore them without reading them* if you don't want to. Alternatively, you can help someone out by pointing them in the direction of resources better suited to their needs. I haven't seen too many repeated "How do I ..." questiongs from people that *have* been pointed towards other resources. Like it or not we've *all* been learners at some point and its not immediately obvious exactly how much is actually out there on the web to help you. Likewise, not many people have spare money to fork out on books A, B and C on the off-chance they might be useful to them. OK, no more from me on this subject. I'll stop *my* gripe by saying that: a) gripe-messages contribute nothing to a mailing list as a whole while "too elementary for this list" questions can at least be added to a FAQ somewhere, and b) gripe-messages p**s me off far more than beginners questions and as such, are more likely to make me stop my subscription to this list - if I want arguments I'll read alt.flame.whatever. c) please do me the courtesy of sticking with "GRIPE" and not using "Complaint", "Moan" or other synonyms so that I can keep my kill-filters simple if it actually comes to killing messages from an otherwise *useful* mailing-list. Apologies to everyone out there for the length of this "gripe". Kev PS - more experienced coders might not have been posting here recently because they're actually coding something. Alternatively, like me (who reads this stuff during lunch), they're earning a living as *well* as writing or trying to write games. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Kevin Shea D-Cubed Ltd.
